This mornings blog cruising led me to several articles on the clothing we wear.
Using what we wear to express who we are or who we would like to be. Using our clothing to to express our beliefs and values. I have to admit it’s an area that I used to have very strong opinions on but I’ve let slide. Once upon a time I dreamed of wearing only beautiful clothing made or repurposed ethically that felt comfortable. Instead I mostly wear jeans and t shirts and sweatshirts with an occasional dress or skirt thrown in. I’ve done some considerable pruning of my wardrobe recently and love the fact that I can walk into my closet and see all the clothes that I own. I have to say that there are a few more items I should let go off. I haven’t tried the many coats and jackets lurking in the back of my closet on since I lost a few pounds this summer. It may be thatI will not have to decide what to eliminate. It may be very obvious.
I started this article by calling it “On Slowing Down” but will now go change the title as what I meant to say typed up totally differently! It’s all part and parcel of the many thoughts roaming through my head regarding living life deliberately rather than at the frantic pace that often comes just trying to keep up with a family the size of mine with the commitment level to various activities that we have. WOW now that was a run away sentence wasn’t it?
I would like to move forward with clothes that impact the earth in good ways allowing for as little consumerism as possible. Using thrift stores and homemade clothing etc. I think I’ll start my quest with the new dress I need for the wedding I’m attending in October. I actually have two weddings but am comfortable with something in my closet for the first wedding. If I happen to find something new in time I may wear it to both because only my daughter will see me at both!
Well it’s time to pay attention to the many children milling through the dining room starting their day.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

I love the nice cool weather of the fall.
If it’s cool enough to don a sweatshirt and sit around a campfire it’s the best weather in the world as far as I am concerned. Add in some music and my evening is made. Bethany and Aimée have really picked up their guitar playing. They practice a fair amount and learn more whenever they have a chance. I wish we had had the ability and finances to encourage more of our older children to pursue music. I know I’ll keep pushing the younger children to learn anything they can. Music speaks to the soul.
Last night was so beautiful and it was made more perfect by grandchildren and our younger guys and their friends running around in the dark, some campfire food and apple cider around the campfire and then music. Our friend Andy has a God given talent for not only music but also for encouraging others to play and enjoy.
It’s easy to wake up Sunday morning praising and ready to worship God when you go to bed Sunday night with worship on your heart and in your mind.

Fall is quickly approaching and amidst the busy work of gardening and school planning, I think, “I should blog about that”. A great idea in theory, but once we’re done making a counter full of salsa and putting up 75 pounds of corn into the freezer I am way to tired. That was yesterdays achievement. Earlier this week we managed to actually can about 14 quarts of applesauce (and to eat a bunch) and to freeze about 26 bags of corn for a total of 60 pounds. Even setting some aside for my in-laws and for some of the adult children that live nearby I have enough to get through the winter. That is a good feeling!
Today needs to see progress on a lug and a half of peaches sitting here. Hmmmm and maybe, just maybe a little bit of school planning?…maybe.

Well it’s been a long six months but taking a break from bloggy-dom was a good thing. It’s been a long time but I’m back. (Said in the scary voice-over of creepy movies!)
Recently (read: since I’ve been on break) we have had my father move in with my daughter next door. Our son who was living there moved back in here and then a week or two later another son and his two little guys moved home. I’m in family heaven. Surprisingly, it’s working fairly well. We’ve had a few glitches as people have had to be creative to get their personal space. The last big project is to empty out the small storage room upstairs that housed all my craft stuff and scrub it out. Once that is done the moves are complete.
We also had a wedding! Dave married Jennifer in DC last February in the most gorgeous setting over looking the Potomac River. It will be a forever night to remember. I’ll try and post pictures soon.
Jeffrey graduated from high school! He will be doing some small engine repair work as he buys fixer uppers (three- wheeler anyone? ) and gets them ready for resell. He will be doing some post high school studies here at home. He had enough credits to graduate but you know us homeschool mamas .. we can always find more for them to study.
As many of you know our son Matthew was in a motor-cycle accident last spring. His recovery is a long story and one I’ll save for another day when we have some news we are waiting for. In the mean time we have much to thank God for!
I’ll be back soon to type what else is going on.. I had a major computer glitch and ditched windows 8 as my hate affair with it was getting extreme. So all my photos and such to share are on a back up hard drive. As I learn how to use this Linux system I’ll move some back over and share them here.
Thanks for listening!

It’s an old fashioned blizzard out there and we are stuck at home. I love weather like this. It is truly too icky to go out. We miss Jonathan as he is having a fun time at his cousins house but I am sure he doesn’t miss us!
Got a lot of the dreaded monthly paperwork / bill paying done today and spent hours researching hotel deals. Feels like a job well accomplished. While I was doing that Pat and the children attacked the house and got it looking pretty good.
Since tomorrow is already basically shut down with all activities cancelled I plan on doing important things like making a fun to do for school list and sorting through crochet projects to determine the next one. (if I get real motivated I may clean my bedroom or craft / school room).
OHHHH I know the perfect thing to do tomorrow! Get out the garden magazines and start planning!
What do you do in a snow storm?

Why a verse you have known and read for years suddenly comes across in bright colorful style every time you read it?
I have encountered this verse several times lately and it practically LEAPS off the page or screen each time I see it.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.(Romans 8:28)

Outside my window… it is dark and blessedly cool. The animals are quiet and the stars are staring to spark through the clouds.
I am thinking… That I am happy to have found a couple of minutes for the blog..
I am thankful for… the time Pat got to spend at home this weekend. I am so thankful he found time to fix my car. He works so hard and then comes home to more lists. I am trying hard NOT to have too many honey do lists for the short time he is here. Having adult boys and almost adult boys who are handy with mechanics and carpentry really help here.
From the learning rooms… it is education time for me the mama. I am working on some CM studies and praying about changes I may make to our homeschool and what will continue as is.
From the kitchen… I hear the dishwasher. what a wonderful machine!
I am creating… not much lately ! I did start a scrapbook page for my bible scrapbook..
I am going… camping with the boys next week!
I am reading… a book I have already read.. just to have some no pressure time.
I am hoping… to find a special gift for the hubby. Our 32cd anniversary is just a few weeks away!.
I am hearing… the dishwasher.. the washer and music from the girls’ room..
Around the house… we are NOT thinking about the fact that we had a wonderful Memorial weekend with very little cleaning time. That is tomorrow’s worry!.
One of my favorite things… is curling up under a warm blanket on cool nights. That is where I am headed in a few minutes.
A few plans for the rest of the week include… finishing up my CM seminar and spending extended time with God regarding the upcoming school year.

Tomorrow is coming quickly.. I am so excited.. and sort of petrified I have forgotten a million things! I am praying the wonderful parents involved in the co-op with me will extend GRACE in abundant measure as we move forward with this new year.
I am finalizing all the class wish lists piles and will have the children help load the car as soon as it gets back from the store. I may find thirst more things undone but am planning on remembering my promise to put my family first so will stop at 8:30 p.m. and read to my family.
Anyone reading this please pray for our day tomorrow!

In my life this week…. having Pat come home was a high light!
In our homeschool this week… working on co-op. Had a family who was teaching drop. Time to re arrange!
My favorite thing this week was…Shopping with my beautiful girls on Monday! I do need to put up a post about all the fun!
What’s working/not working for us…having daddy home for the weekend was a real blessing. This was his first trip home since the Father’s day week when he was off because of rain.
I’m reading…the Moody Family series to the younger children and various education books for myself and a new series I found on our shopping day. Laura Hayden is the Author
I’m praying for….the looming week (s?) ahead with Pat gone. That I can handle things without getting upset and dumping on him while he is so far away.

We celebrated Bethany’s birthday a few days early today. The girls had a mini “do” and nails painted with just a touch of makeup to add to the glam!
Since Isaac shares a birthday I asked if he wanted to join in. He declined. Boys will find time to have an overnight video game playing, food eating, soda drinking night some time in the near future.
