Regular life but a great day.

April 30, 2011|12:25 am

Today started with the sadness of a calf dying. But after taking care of it and getting the rest of the animals taken care it was off to the MN Horse Expo with my girls and Jeffrey.

What a fun relaxed day! We had another friend (also horse crazy ) attend with us so the four children, Dané and I made a full day of it. We made pie in the sky wish lists of the types of horses we would love to have in our barn. Oohhed and ahhed at pretty tack and cute little horse carts. Watched the Parade of Breeds from start to finish. Found out that a community college not too far from here has a potential program for the middle horsy girl and just had an all around fun time. God has blessed me !

I am so grateful to Ben and Isaac for holding down the fort with our little guys and the grandsons!

Spring… Spring… a Wondrous Thing

April 22, 2011|10:50 pm

The highs today were only in the 40’s. The sun was hidden by dark gray clouds laden with rain that fell off and on all day. But here on the Hiniker farm it felt like spring. Pat’s goal for the weekend is to make our chickens another condominium. So off to Menards we went with a stop planned for TSC to check out the cost of supplies for feeding a couple of jersey calves if we got them to raise for beef.

Well we didn’t make it very far as there were adorable little bunnies at TSC.. and they just happened to be Satins.. at that just happens to be a kind of rabbit that Bethany is interested in raising,, and they just happened to be within the range of the money planned for her birthday present.

Their names are Black prince and Princess Snow.. can you guess which one is which?

Well of course, we had to bring them home and then headed back to town after lunch. This time we made it to Menards for our supplies. Hmm not having any supplies left at home is going to make this chicken tractor a bit more expensive than the others. Pat never did get a chance to work on it though as we had to go borrow a live stock trailer and pick up Lunch and Dinner.

Aren’t they adorable?

They will need to be bottle fed for awhile and we will introduce them to solid food later as they are only three days old. We do intend to eventually eat them as grass fed beef in our freezer is a luxury we will enjoy. In the mean time Lunch and Dinner will be living a luxurious life here at the farm with much attention from our children and grandchildren.. oh and the horses!

The Haircut

April 15, 2011|8:38 am

Not since his dad sported wavy long locks in 1979- 1980 has any of the guys in my family experimented with long hair. (well I know my grandson Paul prefers his longer but not Grandpa Pat in the early years long!)

Isaac decided his needed to go recently so I decided to document the change.

Joy comes in the morning

March 5, 2011|9:11 pm

(But sometimes we need to force it during the day and evening too.)

I was watching a show recently that used this verse as part of a speech. It was very aptly used in a secular show in such a way that anyone who was hearing it would really have to think twice about the meaning. That even after great tragedy or sorrow there will once again, come a time of Joy.

I think as moms we have to , we really should take time to stop and assess the joy factor in our families. I am not saying that everyone needs to be always happy. Nor am I advocating  making our children happy by whatever means necessary.

I do think however, that a bit of effort on mamas part can have a HUGE effect on the atmosphere.

I know that I for one need to work on this. I need to feed myself a steady diet of mommy culture that allows me to feel joyful in my mama- hood. So that I can pass that along.  I need to stop in my busyness and banish the thoughts that let me get away with being too busy, not in a good “enough” mood, or just plain  lazy. I want to be the mama or grandma that has a kind or supportive word. A helping hand. Or in cases of extreme emergency a great piece of chocolate.Open-mouthed smile

Psalm 30

1 I will exalt you, O LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. 2 O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me. 3 O LORD, you brought me up from the grave; you spared me from going down into the pit. 4 Sing to the LORD, you saints of his; praise his holy name. 5 For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but joy comes in the morning. 6 When I felt secure, I said, “I will never be shaken.” 7 O LORD, when you favored me, you made my mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed. 8 To you, O LORD, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy: 9 “What gain is there in my destruction, in my going down into the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness? 10 Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me; O LORD, be my help.” 11 You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, 12 that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever.

Those of you reading this are most likely having a good laugh at these lofty aspirations of mine. They are just that aspirations, dreams, the me I would love to be. Something to set my sights on while the reality of my oh too often, sinful self  actually lives here. Our God is a God of miracles, right?

Pat got rained out on his job site and so was able to come home for a night. He got here around 4 o’clock his afternoon and is already outside with the boys working on his mom’s garage. He also hopes to get Dané’s roof coated before he leaves at 6 tomorrow evening. He and I will get a chance to have some time to really visit tonight as he needs to run drop off paperwork at the shop. I’ll ride with him so we can chat about the week:)

Big brother Nick took Jeff and Isaac duck hunting today for the annual Youth Hunt. Jeffrey got two and Isaac brought home one. A successful morning all in all!

Learning more about blogging..

July 18, 2010|2:08 pm

I am trying window’s live writer for the first time ever. You actually write off line and can see exactly how it will look as you are typing out your post. So far I think I am going to love it.Picture0042

i just played with the insert photo feature and here is Isaac’s smiling face in an instant! Much easier than before. I also like the way it centers itself. I’ll have to see if it stays that way when I hit the publish button.

Well it is time to get back to work on co-op items. The rest of the family has been working on ordinary things and / or grandma’s garage renovations. (the new roof is on!). I am working the printer so hard it is warm to the touch!

I have been living life instead of blogging about it.

July 14, 2010|7:24 am

Saturday morning I went to Joyce Meyers in the twin cities with my friend Laurie. It was awesome. I really went because my friend wanted to. I did spend quite some time asking the Lord to let me be open for whatever He wanted me to get out of it (can you tell I wasn’t expecting much?). Well long story short..she touched on our spiritual giftings. opened my eyes.. I started questioning.. did some Bible research.. talked to a couple of friends about their giftings and did some more research. God gave me some pretty great insights to myself and the spiritual gifts. I know it is trite to say the Lord is AWESOME or that He is AMAZING but isn’t He?

Yesterday I took a break from school and co-op planning to take the children to the COMO zoo. My friend, who doesn’t care a bit for zoo,s met me so we could exchange some girls for the week. She impressed me by staying for over an hour.. which proves she likes me more than dislikes zoos! 🙂 On the way up I had a fun conversation with a friend who has moved to MO ( HI! Karen). on the drive home I had a bit if time to chat when a friend from Wisconsin with a very busy life called.

Today it is back to co-op things.. no homeschool here this week with the child exchange we did. It is supposed to storm today so maybe several movies with the children this afternoon. The children have the first three discs of “Family Affair” from way back when out from Netflix.

Isaac on stilts

Here is a picture of Isaac at the parade on Saturday night. He is standing next to Sissy who is 5″6 or 7″.

In Virginia

June 26, 2010|5:50 pm

I am in Virginia, I was in Alabama yesterday… fun trip.. great graduation party for my nephew Jesse. I am feeling bad because I am not home with my husband, who has a herniated disc in his back. When Pat breaks down and sees a Dr. you know the pain is bad. Please pray that he can heal quickly and that he can relax during all the enforced down times.

Isaac is at his first parade as a stilt walker!

New family photos

June 21, 2010|5:35 pm

We took these after church yesterday. I wouldn’t let anyone even think of touching the donuts we bought on the way home! Grandma took the family one and Ben took the ones of us ladies. I took the ones of the guys.

Me and my beautiful daughters!

The handsome men who live at my house.
