Happy Resurrection Day

Job 19:25 ~ “I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.”

Praying everyone enjoys the full beauty and meaning of this special Holy day!

Joy comes in the morning

March 5, 2011|9:11 pm

(But sometimes we need to force it during the day and evening too.)

I was watching a show recently that used this verse as part of a speech. It was very aptly used in a secular show in such a way that anyone who was hearing it would really have to think twice about the meaning. That even after great tragedy or sorrow there will once again, come a time of Joy.

I think as moms we have to , we really should take time to stop and assess the joy factor in our families. I am not saying that everyone needs to be always happy. Nor am I advocating  making our children happy by whatever means necessary.

I do think however, that a bit of effort on mamas part can have a HUGE effect on the atmosphere.

I know that I for one need to work on this. I need to feed myself a steady diet of mommy culture that allows me to feel joyful in my mama- hood. So that I can pass that along.  I need to stop in my busyness and banish the thoughts that let me get away with being too busy, not in a good “enough” mood, or just plain  lazy. I want to be the mama or grandma that has a kind or supportive word. A helping hand. Or in cases of extreme emergency a great piece of chocolate.Open-mouthed smile

Psalm 30

1 I will exalt you, O LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. 2 O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me. 3 O LORD, you brought me up from the grave; you spared me from going down into the pit. 4 Sing to the LORD, you saints of his; praise his holy name. 5 For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but joy comes in the morning. 6 When I felt secure, I said, “I will never be shaken.” 7 O LORD, when you favored me, you made my mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed. 8 To you, O LORD, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy: 9 “What gain is there in my destruction, in my going down into the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness? 10 Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me; O LORD, be my help.” 11 You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, 12 that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever.

Those of you reading this are most likely having a good laugh at these lofty aspirations of mine. They are just that aspirations, dreams, the me I would love to be. Something to set my sights on while the reality of my oh too often, sinful self  actually lives here. Our God is a God of miracles, right?

Gratitude Monday on a Wednesday

September 15, 2010|7:29 am

I realized that in neglecting my blog I have seriously neglected my time counting my blessings. Several of the blogs I love to read (really need to figure out that feed bar thing) have a regular post on Mondays listing and counting all the things they are grateful for.

My list for the day:

the right to homeschool

that God brought us to the place where we felt we had to homeschool.

A God who continuously reminds me that He is to be my all in all and for His Grace which let’s me start all over each new day.

Coffee at 5:30 am when you are awakened to a sick dog (Lilly) and a scared of the thunderstorm dog (Misty). Waiting for the vet to open in a couple of minutes to see if they can fit Lilly in to check for an ear infection.

That somehow this week I realized it is ok to NOT use all those scrapbook supplies for scrapping when they are being consumed so handily by children with homeschool projects! I have really not scrapped much since my mom died. She may have enjoyed the scrap book shopping more than she enjoyed the scrapping but she always got excited over my pages.

My local homeschool co-op parents.

Blessings and prayers on this cool wet Wednesday in September. OH that’s another blessing ! I love fall and  55 degree temperatures!

New family photos

June 21, 2010|5:35 pm

We took these after church yesterday. I wouldn’t let anyone even think of touching the donuts we bought on the way home! Grandma took the family one and Ben took the ones of us ladies. I took the ones of the guys.

Me and my beautiful daughters!

The handsome men who live at my house.

The way family photos usually turn out!

And yes the bribe worked. they all stood for the pictures in anticipation of the donuts!

June 13th.

June 14, 2010|9:03 pm

Yesterday , June 13 th was our thirtieth wedding Anniversary. It was an ordinary day and yet was an extraordinary day. We celebrated our love and family. We went out for breakfast together and then ran errands. Everyday, ordinary stuff. Made special by the fact that we enjoy being together. Later we had as many family as wanted to come stop by for dinner. Yummy steaks and chicken on the BBQ. The younger children made us cards :>). The older ones banded together to give us a night out in a hotel. Something we have been trying to do for a long time.  It looks like we may even get to go do that next weekend. The anticipation is half the fun!

My in laws gave us a dozen roses. My mother in love even tried to make it twelve different kinds of roses. One as unique as each of our children and yet also the same.  Here is a great picture of the roses in all their glory.

Monday musings

February 1, 2010|10:49 pm

I have failed miserably not yet succeeded at getting to my blog and and doing the gratitude post on Monday’s.

I am so grateful for many things right now and they seem to come to mind easiest in the middle of the night and wee small hours of the morning. I’ll see how many of them I can remember tonight.

I am blessed by chickens who provide wholesome eggs for our family:

I am grateful for time spent with my children. Especially when they now live far away. Matt is stationed in Germany but had to be at a training for computers in Dallas, TX. I was in Texas with my dad as he had been scheduled for surgery. The surgery was canceled while dad was on the table being prepped for surgery. The reason: someone misread the test results. I am so happy they caught it before he went through another surgery!

Matt a bit jet lagged but so much fun.

Last but definitely not least I am so grateful for new life. Nick and Camilla gave birth on January 15th to Joseph James. He is gorgeous! We found out a few days later that Matt and Monica are expecting this fall. This will make 6 grandchildren for Pat and I. God is so good!

Multitude Monday again

January 4, 2010|8:12 pm

I realized I need to actually start counting my multitude of blessings.

SO here I go:

#6 my husband. #7 is my children. #8 a daughter willing to spend time homeschooling her siblings while I visit with my dad. #9 a dad who keeps fighting to be healthy..even when he is tired of being sick and in pain. #10 a visit with a long time friend. # 11 my husband being laid off today. I need to work on really being thankful for this. It is cold with temps way below zero and being laid off means being home to take care of things there. It means he is home to be daddy to boys and girls who relish times spent with him. Yes, it is hard to be on limited income,  but really God provides so much for us.. we truly are blessed beyond all we need.

#13 friends. Friends who can know from the sound of your voice that you need prayer. #14 cold temps that make you thankful for the heat. #15 white chocolate mocha. #16 God’s Grace.
